Boot Flex Question

Question:

I was recently fitted for some ski boots. They didn’t end up having what was ideal for me but I was told anything 100 flex or higher. I found some boots that are 130 flex but I am concerned that may be too stiff. I’m 5’10” 180 I would consider myself an intermediate skier. I ski blues and blacks and enjoy venturing into the trees.

Answer:

Flex is a relative thing. Given your measurements a 130 is not unreasonable. You need to consider flexibility of your ankle and overall fitness level. For example, if you have limited range of motion in your ankle you would appreciate a stiffer boot.
The biggest concern for you with a 130 flex is how that will ski the trees and bumps for you.  Keep in mind there are methods to soften a ski boot and it’s always preferable to soften rather than stiffen a boot. If you’re in the Okemo area, stop in to discuss.
Hope this helps!
