Could canting help?

Question:

I have skis and boots that are 2 seasons old. I noticed after the first season that my skis drift together. So much, in fact, that as I turn, one ski tip ends up slightly under the other ski, resulting in chipping of the top surface of the inside tip of each ski. In trying to do some research, I found that sometimes uneven weight on the footbed can cause skis to drift together. Several years ago, I ran a marathon and my arches fell irreparably. My weight is almost definitely on the inside of my foot in a normal stance.

Do you think canting could help this? Overall, I'm quite comfortable in my boots, but would love to fix this problem. If you think it might help, I can stop in next time I'm up in Ludlow.

Answer:

Greetings Kristen,

Regarding your complaint of skis drifting together –  Properly fit and adjusted gear can certainly make a difference in your skiing performance. We typically start with an assessment of the boot and its fit. Then we can move onto a well supported foot, which would be a custom insole. After the custom insole is built, we can align the cuff of the boot. Cuff alignment will ensure your leg shaft is centrally coming out of the boot. These steps are the foundation of good balance on the slopes. If, after all of this balance is still an issue, we can assess and cant the boot accordingly.
It would also make sense to make sure your skis have a good tune on them. These are all services we offer, and would be happy to help you out if we can.
